On May 16, 2026, the first day of the two-day Bon Odori 2026 festival unfolded at the Puregold
parking lot in front of the Bai Hotel in Cebu, bringing together people from different backgrounds
in a vibrant celebration of Japanese culture and community exchange.
The opening day was filled with lively activities, cultural performances, cosplayers, food stalls,
and merchandise booths from various shops across Cebu. The stage became a platform for both
tradition and entertainment, featuring performances in karate, aikido, mochi pounding, wadaiko,
Himawari, Wannabes, and the much-awaited Bon Odori dance.
Students from Lapulapu-Cebu International College, from first to fourth year, also showed their
support for the festival, particularly through the school’s own booth. First and second-year
students helped manage the booth, while third-year students documented the event through
photography. Despite their demanding graduation preparations, fourth-year students also took time to
explore and enjoy the festivities.
The event drew not only Filipino attendees but also aspiring LCIC applicants and international
visitors, all eager to experience and immerse themselves in Japanese culture in the heart of Cebu.
Adding to the celebration, LCIC students who underwent rigorous training under Tanaka Sensei and
Japan’s Wako Daiko team proudly delivered their wadaiko performance on stage, showcasing both
discipline and cultural artistry before the festival crowd.
